North Hacketty Bed and Breakfast

Antique meets chic North Hacketty is the substantial wing of a former hunting lodge. Built in 1915 for Lord Clifford and once the gathering place of the rich and privileged, it is now the tranquil much loved home of Anita Shaxson. Hewn from local Somerset stone and built to stand the test of centuries, it retains many original features including the sweeping oak staircase, panelled oak doors and flagstone hallway.

Eclectic in style, the baby grand in the tower room, antique beds and hand painted armoire are offset by designer touches such as the sea and shore shades of Farrow &

Romantic rose garden Aside from painting and interior design, Anita Shaxson’s other passion is gardening. The mild eco climate enables North Hacketty to enjoy blooms most months of the year. The circular rose walled garden, boarded to one side by magnificent topiary hedges, homes some 250 roses, swathes of lavender and a huge array of plants.

The lower garden houses a restored fairy tale gazebo, original rockery and places to sit and take in what are arguable the best views over Porlock Bay. Not to mention sunsets that will take your breath away.
